How same-day fulfilment works for online stores based in Bucharest, and what to prepare before the first pickup.
Why same-day matters locally
National carriers usually route parcels through a regional sorting hub, even when the sender and the recipient are a few streets apart within the same city. That structure works reasonably well for long-distance shipping, but it can turn a short trip across Bucharest into a next-day or even two-day delivery once cut-off times and sorting windows are factored in.
For online stores that promise faster local delivery, or that simply want an option for customers within the city, a courier collecting directly from the storage point and delivering the same day removes that extra sorting step entirely.
How a pickup works
Parcels are usually collected in one or two batches per day from a fixed storage address, timed around when orders are packed and ready. Before the courier arrives, the order list is shared through WhatsApp so both sides know how many parcels to expect and where each one is headed.
Each parcel is scanned or logged individually at pickup, and the same WhatsApp thread carries updates through to delivery, including a photo confirmation once a customer receives their order.
Cash-on-delivery and returns
For stores that offer payment on delivery, the courier can collect cash from the customer at drop-off and reconcile it with the store separately, following whatever process has been agreed in advance. This is arranged case by case rather than assumed as a default.
Reverse pickups for returns or exchanges are handled the same way as a regular collection: a WhatsApp message with the pickup address, and the item is brought back to the storage point or forwarded on, depending on what's needed.
What to prepare before pickup
Parcels sealed and labelled with an order number or reference.
A printed or digital manifest listing that day's orders.
A recipient name, address and phone number for each parcel.
A note about any fragile, oversized or unusually shaped items.
Setting up a recurring schedule
Stores with a steady order volume can set up a recurring pickup slot, much like the scheduled routes used by law firms or clinics. The slot can be adjusted around busier periods, such as promotional weekends, or paused during quieter stretches with a short notice message beforehand.
